Munich's 2027 AI calendar rewards a specific question. Do you want to make a robot more capable, prove a marketing use case, assess an industrial system, secure an AI deployment or put intelligence into a vehicle?
I found five worthwhile trips in the city, counting automatica and its associated munich_i programme as one visit. The events serve different buyers and builders, so I would choose the room before I book the flight.
1. German Robotics Conference 2027: research that must move
17–19 MARCH 2027 | MUNICH, GERMANY
The Robotics Institute Germany brings its third German Robotics Conference to Munich for researchers, industry teams and people moving ideas between them. If you work on robot learning, perception or AI-enabled autonomy, this is where I would test a technical claim against specialists who understand the physical system around your model.
A robotics paper can look convincing until a gripper misses, a sensor drifts or a task changes. Bring one failure case, then ask potential collaborators how they would measure robustness outside your lab. I would favour this conference over a trade fair when feedback on research is your priority.
2. CFKI 2027: AI beyond another marketing content demo
6–7 APRIL 2027 | ICM, MESSE MÜNCHEN
CFKI, the CMO Forum for AI in Marketing, is aimed at marketing leaders in medium-sized and large companies already using AI beyond content generation. That makes it a sharper choice than a general AI expo if you own customer journeys, measurement, campaign operations or the governance of marketing tools.
I would arrive with a result you cannot yet explain: a quicker workflow that did not improve conversion, perhaps, or a personalised campaign that created extra review work. Ask peers what they changed in process and data before you compare vendors. If you want a foundation-model research discussion, this is the wrong ticket.

3. automatica and munich_i: one trip, two lenses on physical AI
22–25 JUNE 2027 | MESSE MÜNCHEN
At automatica, AI has to work alongside robotics, machine vision, handling equipment and production constraints. I would send plant engineers and automation buyers there with a defined process problem, because a convincing robot demonstration tells you little about installation time, maintenance or a shift in product mix.
The associated munich_i platform adds a high-tech summit, an AI and society programme and a robotics challenge. Use it to step back from supplier comparisons and ask how research, human interaction and responsible deployment change the longer-term roadmap. Check access to individual programme formats before booking.
For a research lead, I would start at munich_i and then walk the exhibition to see what industry can actually integrate. For a factory buyer, reverse that order. Either way, give yourself time for conversations beyond the keynote stage.
4. CYBER / AI Expo 2027: ask how the system fails
30 JUNE 2027 | MUNICH, GERMANY
A week after automatica, Munich hosts a narrower discussion at the intersection of cybersecurity and AI. I would choose CYBER / AI Expo if you protect enterprise systems, build security products or need to evaluate what an AI agent can access, leak or automate.
For every claim about faster detection, ask what happens when an alert is wrong or an attacker changes tactics. For every AI deployment, ask who owns the permissions and incident response. Security leaders will get more value here than someone seeking a broad tour of machine-learning research.

5. IAA Summit 2027: AI meets the mobility supply chain
7–10 SEPTEMBER 2027 | MESSE MÜNCHEN
IAA Summit is the professional business format within IAA MOBILITY, with a conference covering autonomous driving, AI and generative AI alongside vehicle and software topics. This is my pick for automotive AI teams that need to talk across sensors, software, suppliers and commercial decisions.
A transport model cannot succeed on benchmark accuracy alone; it has to fit a safety case, compute budget and update process. Ask potential partners where their system was tested and who handles edge cases after release.
If your work is more about networks and passenger data, see my transport analytics events guide. IAA is more useful when you need the automotive ecosystem in one place.

Which Munich AI event should you choose?
PhD students and robotics researchers should start with the German Robotics Conference; industrial research leaders could pair it with munich_i. Factory engineers and procurement teams should prioritise automatica, while marketing executives will find a more relevant peer group at CFKI.
Security architects and CISOs should choose CYBER / AI Expo for a focused day on risk and resilience. Automotive software teams, mobility founders and suppliers should start with IAA Summit. If you can attend only one, pick the event where people can challenge your current project, not merely admire its demo.
Did you not find the event you were looking for?
Search by the job your next event must do: research feedback, supplier evaluation, a buyer meeting or a security review. Check the organiser's latest programme and admission details before committing your travel budget.
